How much does WordPress maintenance cost?

On the market, the range runs from around €20 per month for purely automated updates to several hundred euros for individually managed enterprise setups. What matters is not the price alone but what is actually included: Are updates merely applied or also checked? Do external backups exist? Is restoration provided in an emergency? Is there a real person who answers?

Our plans include updates, daily backups, security scans, attack protection and a monthly maintenance report at every level. The differences lie in update frequency, scope of security monitoring, performance work and support response time.

What influences maintenance costs?

Update frequency

Maintenance costs depend mainly on six factors: update frequency, size of the website, business importance, desired security level, support level and initial condition. The more often a site is checked and updated, the shorter the window in which a known vulnerability stays open – and the higher the effort of care.

Size of the website

A website with 8 plugins behaves differently from one with 40. More components mean more dependencies and more checking effort after updates.

Business criticality

Shops and appointment booking systems need shorter response times and staging tests. A purely informational site can tolerate longer windows.

Security level

Extended monitoring, country and IP blocking and a CDN with DDoS protection cost extra – but pay off with high traffic.

Support level

Prioritised support means guaranteed handling ahead of standard requests – the most important factor when revenue depends on the website.

Initial condition

Websites that have not been maintained for a long time require a more extensive initial review. We estimate this in advance, before monthly maintenance starts.

Maintain it yourself or use a maintenance service?

Self-maintenance is not free; it just does not show up on the invoice. For a business website, realistically one to three hours per month go into updates, checks and backup verification – plus the time that arises when something goes wrong. A maintenance service from €39 per month is therefore often cheaper than your own working time.

Maintenance by your own team

• 1–3 hours of working time per month • Expertise in updates, backups and security required • Costs for backup and security tools • No cover during holidays, illness or staff changes • In an emergency, searching for a provider under time pressure

What does a hacked website cost?

Cleaning up a hacked website is almost always more expensive than preventive maintenance, because the work is done under time pressure. It includes analysis and containment, removal of the malware, review of all user accounts and files, closing the entry point, restoring a clean state and, where necessary, getting the all-clear from Google.

This effort is billed by the hour and usually clearly exceeds the annual cost of regular maintenance. Added to this are indirect consequences: lost inquiries, ranking losses and the need to explain things to customers. We deliberately do not state exact amounts here – they depend on the individual case. The comparison that matters: maintenance is a predictable amount, a security incident is not.

What does a website outage cost?

What a website outage costs depends on the business model. For an informational site, it costs mainly trust and inquiries. For an online shop, the damage is directly measurable: revenue per hour multiplied by the duration of the outage. For a medical practice, appointment bookings fail; for a law firm, contact requests.

The decisive lever is not preventing every outage but shortening downtime. Monitoring reports the incident automatically, and a current backup cuts restoration from days to minutes.

Worked example: online shop

A shop with €3,000 daily revenue loses around €750 during a six-hour outage – more than half a year of Business Plus maintenance.

What does WordPress maintenance cost for businesses?

For most business websites, Business Plus at €59 per month is the right plan: updates twice weekly, extended security monitoring, performance optimisation and prioritised support. For multiple websites – for example at agencies or corporate groups – we calculate per website and agree joint maintenance windows.

Business-critical systems with high traffic or shop integration are better covered by Business Enterprise at €99 per month, especially thanks to 24/7 monitoring, a CDN with DDoS protection and daily updates. You will find details of the scope of services on the page

Our own maintenance, backup and security tools are included. Licences for your own premium plugins and themes remain with you – we update them provided valid licences are available.

Our plans apply per website. For multiple websites – typical for agencies – we prepare a joint quote with uniform maintenance windows and a consolidated report.

No, maintenance is independent of hosting and is booked in addition to your existing hosting. Your website can stay where it is.
