Why airline websites need ongoing care

At airlines, a highly regulated operation meets a website that has to build trust: fleet, routes, fare conditions, passenger rights, crew applications. When a disruption is added, such as a delay, strike or bad weather, traffic rises abruptly, and that is exactly when the site has to stay up.

Security

Airline brands are frequently abused for phishing and fake prize draws. A firewall, login protection, two-factor authentication and malware scans secure your presence.

Booking entry point & interfaces

The booking form, check-in link and status lookup usually depend on external systems. After every update, we check that the handover works cleanly.

Load peaks during disruptions

During delays and cancellations, everyone searches at the same time. Caching, image optimisation and a clean server configuration keep the site available even under load.

Passenger rights & mandatory information

Conditions of carriage, passenger rights and baggage rules are often available as PDFs. We check links, file sizes and accessibility so that nothing leads nowhere.

Crew & technical recruiting

The careers portal is the central channel for pilots, cabin crew and technical staff. We regularly test application forms and file uploads for deliverability.

Performance & multilingualism

Airline sites are usually multilingual. We check load times, language switching and hreflang markup so that every language version is indexed cleanly.

Round-the-clock monitoring

Flight operations don't keep office hours. Our monitoring reports outages automatically, including at night, at weekends and on public holidays.

Industry knowledge

What requirements apply to an airline's website?

For airlines, the website is a central sales and service channel. Since 28 June 2025, websites, apps, electronic tickets and travel information in passenger air transport must be accessible under the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG). At the same time, the site has to cope with high traffic during disruptions and reliably provide information on passenger rights.

Legal framework for airlines

  • BFSG: Accessibility for websites, apps, e-tickets and real-time travel information in air transport.
  • Regulation (EC) No 261/2004: Information on passenger rights in the event of delay and cancellation.
  • Art. 32 GDPR: Protection of passenger and payment data.
  • PSD2: Strong customer authentication for online payments.

What we check during every maintenance

  • Entry point to booking and check-in works
  • Language versions and currencies correct
  • Notices on disruptions and passenger rights can be updated quickly
  • CDN and caching for load peaks
  • Accessibility unchanged after updates
  • Careers portal and applications

A charter operator with a compact web presence and a scheduled airline with a booking entry point, crew portal and eight language versions have little in common. We calculate based on actual scope rather than a flat rate.

What determines the effort

Number of language versions and brands, interfaces to booking and check-in systems, traffic volume and load peaks during disruptions, requirements for availability and response times.
